It is commonly accepted among experts that creating Black and White images in Photoshop is best done using the channel mixer however this can be a fiddly process that requires a good deal of experience. This action creates three individual layers using the channel mixer representing Red, Green and Blue filters that can then just be mixed at will using the layers opacity sliders. As a bonus there is also a Sepia toning layer which can be adjusted or turned off as required.

PhotoTune SkinTune v2.0 for Adobe Photoshop - 5,3 Mb

Correcting skin color with Adobe Photoshop is one of the most difficult tasks professional photographers face every day. If you are a wedding, portrait, or fashion photographer, you know exactly what I mean. The problem is that the range of acceptable skin color is very, very limited, and it varies slightly for different races. Additionally, subtle skin color is difficult to render on a computer monitor, so making accurate adjustments is tricky.
Unlike other software companies who took shortcuts, we spent years studying skin color, and collecting thousands of image samples from around the world. Then, we took precise spectrophotometer measurements and compiled complete reference databases of acceptable colors for each race. What we discovered is that skin color represents less than 1% of all available colors, and that each race has slightly different color characteristics. So, it's no wonder that correction is such a difficult process, especially when traditional tools were never designed to handle such a small range of colors.

After collecting and studying color samples, our next step was to construct complete libraries for different races, including African, Asian, Caucasian, Latin, and Middle Eastern. Each library contains between 125,000 and 150,000 colors made up of different combinations of hue, brightness, and saturation, based on the unique characteristics of each race.



Custom Tools
Understanding skin color was only half the battle. It was obvious that we also needed to create specialized tools designed specifically for skin color adjustment. One thing you'll notice with SkinTune is that all the adjustments are totally independent, so adjusting brightness, as an example, has no effect on hue or saturation. This is important because a small adjustment can easily result in an out-of-gamut skin color.

Finally, we needed to find a way to increase the precision of SkinTune to provide maximum control over the skin color spectrum. Our tools are twice as precise as Photoshop so you can make very subtle adjustments and achieve life-like results. As you can tell, we worked hard to make your job easy.

Easy, Quick, and Stress-Free
To use SkinTune, alI you do is open an image in Photoshop, and select PhotoTune SkinTune from the Filter menu. After two clicks of the mouse, SkinTune instantly finds the nearest acceptable skin color from the selected library, and automatically corrects your image. After SkinTune does its magic, you are free to use SkinTune's tools to adjust hue, brightness, contrast, and saturation. All your adjustments will stay within the boundaries of the library to insure perfect, lifelike results.

A channel mixer is a very flexible tool, able to realize subtle to extreme color modifications, grayscale conversions and much more. Unfortunately, channel mixers in most imaging programs (including Photoshop) are rather complicated. SF ColorMixer eliminates this flaw with its built-in auto balance.
